ICT Ministry to Establish Headquarters at Konza Technopolis

Nairobi: Plans are underway to construct a modern headquarters for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy at Konza Technopolis in Makueni County. The headquarters will host the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, State Agencies that include the Directorates of Information and Public Communication, State Department of ICT and the Digital Economy, as well as the ICT Authority.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Director of Administration for the State Department for ICT, Mr. Wesley Maritim, chaired a planning committee meeting for the project at Telposta Towers in Nairobi. He emphasized that the construction is a significant flagship project for the ministry as it will consolidate all the departments in one location. Mr. Maritim noted that some departmental offices currently operate in rental premises, incurring substantial costs. The new headquarters is expected to save resources and streamline administrative functions.

The government, through the Konza Technopolis Development Authority under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, aims to centralize investments in innovators, industries, academic institutions, and other emerging technologies. In addition to the construction of the ministry’s headquarters, the project will also feature staff quarters.

Konza City, located approximately 60 kilometers south of Nairobi, encompasses a 5,000-acre master-planned city designed to promote science, innovation, technology, and commercial investments. This development is anticipated to play a crucial role in Kenya’s digital era development agenda and contribute to economic growth, aligning with the Kenya Kwanza Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The planning committee comprises several key figures, including Secretary Administration State Department for ICT Jonam Kinama, Senior Deputy Secretary, State Department for Broadcasting and Communication Stephen Nyakundi, Manager Investor Facilitation for Konza Technopolis Agatha Kakui, and Director of Information Joseph Kipkoech, among other senior departmental heads and representatives from other line ministries.
