Embu: Embu business community has pledged to safeguard their enterprises from criminals who exploit protests to loot and destroy their property. They expressed their readiness to take any necessary measures to safeguard their businesses from potential criminals who may infiltrate demonstrations to steal and destroy their operations.
According to Kenya News Agency, Charles Shanyaki, upon election as Interim Chair of the Embu Business Owners Association, firmly warned against criminal activities during peaceful demonstrations. ‘Don’t dare us; we will not allow a few criminal elements who infiltrate peaceful demonstrations aiming to loot and destroy our businesses,’ he cautioned. Shanyaki addressed the Association’s Interim Committee elections at Talent Academy Hall in Embu Town, highlighting politicians who have contributed to the fuelling of protests. He stated they have no political inclination and asked politicians to keep off their businesses to avoid scaring away investors.
Shanyaki also emphasized the business community’s intolerance towards rhetoric that incites emotions and disrupts operations. ‘We shall no longer tolerate reckless rhetoric that incites emotions and disrupts our business operations,’ he remarked, adding that those responsible will be publicly called out and shamed.
Meanwhile, Shanyaki assured potential investors of a favourable business environment in the future. ‘We as the local business people want to assure you of a safe and conducive environment to invest, grow and prosper,’ he assured.
The new association was established after business owners expressed dissatisfaction with the previous one due to its poor performance and inaction during protests.
