Ouagadougou: The Association of Students of the Village of Sissily (AEES) organized, this Saturday, September 20, 2025, a ceremony of academic excellence under the unifying theme “Patriotism and civic-mindedness for academic success”. The event, which took place at the village’s School A, brought together administrative authorities, parents, teachers and students in an atmosphere that was both solemn and festive.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was held under the patronage of Professor Lucie NEBIE, patron of the event, and presided over by the Prefect, President of the Special Delegation of Leo, Kassoum KOALAGA. Their presence underlined the importance given to the AEES initiative and the promotion of education in the locality.
The heart of the ceremony was the award ceremony. The AEES honored the top boys and girls in each grade, from CP1 to 9th grade, for their exceptional academic achievements. The lucky recipients received school kits to accompany them on their journey. The special prizes, awarded to the top students in the CEP and BEPC exams, were particularly noteworthy. They consisted of two bicycles, a valuable and practical gift that was greeted with immense joy by the winners and their families, symbolizing both mobility and the freedom to access knowledge.
In her speech, the patron, Professor Lucie NEBIE, congratulated the AEES for this salutary initiative which encourages merit and stimulates emulation among young people. She took advantage of this platform to launch a heartfelt appeal to parents, urging them to tirelessly support the education of their children, particularly that of young girls, and to accompany them “to the next level.” “I am so sad when I see young boys abandoning school for gold mining sites or girls to get married,” lamented Professor Lucie NEBIE.
Mr. Kassoum Koalaga, Chairman of the Special Delegation, reiterated his administration’s commitment and availability to the cause of education, presented as a fundamental pillar of development. “We will spare no effort when it comes to educational activity,” he said.
AEES President Ousmani Nebie expressed his gratitude to all partners and administrative authorities for their continued support. He reiterated the association’s vision, namely “to encourage and train a quality next generation of professionals, a guarantee of sustainable and harmonious development for the village of Sissily.”
The solemnity of the speeches and the award ceremony were enhanced by the performances of the traditional Nabonon de Sissily troupe, which embellished the ceremony with its traditional dances and rhythms, recalling the importance of culture as an essential complement to education.
