Ouagadougou: The Faso Yennenga Sports Association (ASFA-Y) and the Sports Association of the Burkinabe National Electricity Company (AS SONABEL) ended their opening match of the Faso Foot Ligue 1 season in a 0-0 draw at the Issoufou Joseph Conombo Municipal Stadium. This match marked the start of the new season, with both teams showcasing a cautious approach to the game.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Professional Football League (LFP), under the Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF), selected this match between ASFA-Y and AS SONABEL to inaugurate the season. These clubs are among the top contenders in the Faso Foot league. AS SONABEL’s coach, Boureima Kabore, expressed that although the team aimed to win, early-season challenges such as player fatigue from pre-season preparations were evident.
Kabore assured fans that AS SONABEL would present a more robust performance in their next match. Last season, AS SONABEL secured third place, just behind the US Armed Forces, while ASFA-Y finished in the lower half of the table and now aspire to improve their standing.
The match was initiated by Alain Traore, a former Burkinabe international, with Oumarou Sawadogo, the president of the Burkinabe Football Federation, attending the event. In addition to this match, other games took place: ASFB and Salitas FC also ended in a 0-0 draw, AS Douanes won against CFFEB with a score of 1-0, and Sporting Cascades and AJEB concluded their match with another 0-0 draw.
Further matches are scheduled, with EFO hosting Real de Faso and SC Majestic facing the RCK Falcons. Matches involving Rahimo FC and USFA have been postponed due to their participation in the African campaign, with future fixtures to be announced. Rahimo FC, who achieved a treble win this season, will meet Vitesse FC, while the US Armed Forces will compete against RCB.
