Endeavour Foundation Launches ‘I Choose My Future’ Campaign to Combat School Pregnancies in Hounde

Ouagadougou: The Endeavour Foundation has launched the ‘I Choose My Future’ campaign to tackle the issue of school pregnancies in Hounde. The campaign, initiated by the Endeavour Foundation and executed by the Association for the Promotion of Community Health and Integrated Social Development (AS.Co.SI) of Hounde, was officially inaugurated on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The event was overseen by the High Commissioner of Tuy Province, Issiaka Segda, and witnessed the participation of administrative, educational, customary, and religious authorities, along with numerous students.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ‘I Choose My Future’ program aims to address the issue of pregnancies among school-going girls in the commune of Hounde. This campaign underscores the Endeavour Foundation’s dedication to the education, health, and protection of young girls. With an investment totaling 14.5 million CFA francs, the initiative seeks to raise awareness about the risks of school pregnancies among over 3,000 students across 17 schools over the course of three months. These institutions will also benefit from the establishment of school health clubs.

Nasse Ouedraogo, the representative of the general manager of Hounde Gold Operation (HGO) and director of social performance, stated that this campaign aligns with Endeavour Mining’s sustainable development strategy. He emphasized that the project addresses a primary cause of school dropouts: teenage pregnancies. “We are proud to be the financial partner of this project, because we believe in the power of prevention, education, and second chances,” he remarked.

Seydou Traore, the provincial director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training of Tuy, expressed his appreciation for the project’s implementation in his province. He highlighted that thousands of pregnancies are recorded annually in schools across Burkina Faso. “In Tuy province, we noted that around 2.4% of girls were pregnant or already mothers in 2025,” he said. Traore welcomed the political and institutional support embodied in this project and reaffirmed his department’s unwavering commitment to ensuring its success.

Yacou Michael Ido, president of AS.Co.SI, pledged to engage his experienced team, maintain transparency in management, and achieve the anticipated outcomes. In his opening address, High Commissioner Issiaka Segda commended the initiative as a beacon of hope, expressing gratitude to all contributors to the project’s fruition, especially the Endeavour Foundation through its subsidiary, Hounde Gold Operation (HGO).

The inauguration ceremony also included a forum theater and an artistic presentation on the repercussions of teenage pregnancy and STIs in schools. Segda urged the entire community to participate actively in the campaign’s success. As a reminder, the Endeavour Foundation operates as an arm of the Endeavour Mining group, charged with fulfilling its social commitments, particularly in education, health, access to water and electricity, and socio-economic development of host communities.
