The Cuban ambassador received, at the diplomatic headquarters, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Guinea Bissau, Anthony Kwaku Ohemeng-Boamah. In the exchange held with the Diplomat, the visitor acknowledged the help provided by Cuba to the people of Guinea Bissau, not only during the struggle for independence, but also after the triumph; in spheres as important as education with the dispatch of advisers and teachers for the development of the literacy campaign and in the sphere of health, with the training of doctors and specialists for the health system of this country.
The ambassador, for his part, offered a broad explanation of the current economic situation in the country, the confrontation with COVID-19 by the government and the people, emphasized the development of 3 vaccines and 2 vaccine candidates, which has made it possible for Cuba to achieve significant results in controlling the pandemic, being one of the countries in the world with the highest percentage of its population immunized with its own vaccines; all of the above despite the opportunistic intensification during the pandemic of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, which implemented 243 measures to suffocate the country’s economy.
The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and both interlocutors agreed to systematize them for the benefit of the work of the mission and the United Nations System in Guinea Bissau.
