Bamako: On the sidelines of the celebration of the second anniversary of the Citizen Brigade camp, the Prime Ministers of Mali and Burkina Faso chaired a working session between their respective delegations at the Bamako Administrative City. This gathering is part of a concerted effort to strengthen relations between the two nations, united by shared history, geography, and security concerns.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the discussions centered on matters of mutual interest at both international and sub-regional levels. The Heads of Government praised the consistent consultations between Ouagadougou and Bamako, a mechanism that facilitates the alignment of positions and the execution of high-level decisions. This political alignment demonstrates the commitment of Presidents Assimi Gota and Ibrahim Traor© to foster exemplary bilateral cooperation rooted in solidarity and collaborative efforts.
The Prime Ministers emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among their ministers to create an integration framework that aligns with the Sahelian populations’ aspirations for security, sovereignty, and development.
The cooperation between Mali and Burkina Faso is already manifest in several domains. In terms of security, both nations’ armies are conducting joint operations targeting armed terrorist groups along their shared border. These collaborative efforts aim to secure the cross-border region sustainably and facilitate the resettlement of displaced individuals.
Beyond security, ongoing sectoral consultations cover areas such as sport, youth and employment, justice, tourism, and culture. The objective is to enhance the resilience of both countries against current challenges, including imperialist ambitions, and to develop cooperative alternatives suited to the realities of the Sahel.
In addressing sub-regional matters, the Prime Ministers reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening cooperation in the spirit of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), which promotes the vision of one space, one people, and one destiny.
This meeting in Bamako underscores the joint commitment of the two governments to leverage the unity and solidarity of the Sahelian peoples as a key strategy to tackle security and economic challenges while building a future centered on sovereignty and shared development.
