Bamenda: Sah Terence has been elected as the new president of the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) Bamenda Chapter, securing the position with 40 votes against 29 for his opponent, Muma Jude. Sah’s election marks the beginning of a four-year mandate during which he aims to address key challenges faced by journalists in the North West region.
According to Cameroon News Agency, Sah Terence shared his plans to support journalists in adapting to the rapidly changing media landscape. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning, highlighting advancements in technology, artificial intelligence, and solutions journalism as areas where journalists need to evolve. Sah aims to facilitate this adaptation process by organizing training workshops for the executive members of CAMASEJ.
Sah Terence, who previously worked as a correspondent for ‘The Sun’ newspaper, acknowledged the persistent issue of inadequate working conditions for journalists. To address this, he plans to implement a social security scheme and establish awards and recognitions with tangible benefits for journalists. This includes providing cash prizes and material rewards such as laptops to journalists who excel in thematic areas of reporting. Sah aims to invest approximately FCFA 1.3 million this year into these awards to encourage excellence in journalism.
In his concluding remarks, Sah expressed his commitment to creating a lasting impact and leaving a memorable legacy through these initiatives. He also brings a wealth of experience to his new role, serving as the Cameroon Country Director of the Media and Democracy platform, an Afro-European platform of professional journalists founded in 2015.
