Over 1,000 Absentee Teachers in Cameroon Given Two-Week Ultimatum


Yaound©: Over 1,226 teachers in Cameroon’s Secondary Education sector, who have been absent from their duty posts, have been issued a two-week deadline to present their justifications or face disciplinary actions. This directive comes as part of a press release from Minister Pauline Nalova Lyonga, who has urged these educators to report to the Ministry in Yaound© with their job position mapping forms signed by their respective hierarchies, along with any other documents that can substantiate their current administrative status.



According to Cameroon News Agency, the North West Region reports the least number of absentee teachers, with just 15 educators unaccounted for, while the South West Region has 93 absentee teachers, culminating in a total of 108 in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon. The West Region has reported 43 absentee teachers.



The Littoral Region has emerged as the region with the highest number of absentee teachers, accounting for over a third of the total with 456 absentees. Other regions also report significant numbers: the Centre Region has 152, the Far North 196, Adamawa 85, East 84, North 64, West 43, South 38, and North West 15.



For the North West Region specifically, the schools affected include GTHS Bafut with 9 absentee teachers, Lycee Tecnique Jakiri with 3, GBHS Jakiri with 1, Lycee de Melim, Kumbo with 1, and CCAS Bambili with 1.
