The Director General for Attention to Non-Governmental Organizations receives the Cuban Ambassador Accredited in Guinea Bissau

The Director General for Attention to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Business, International Cooperation and Communities of Guinea Bissau, Dr. Gibrilo Djaló received the Cuban Ambassador, Dr. C. Raúl de la Peña Silva and reiterated his support for Cuba in their struggle for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.

On the occasion, the Guinean diplomat reiterated the solidarity that Cuba has historically offered to the people of Guinea Bissau; since the struggle for independence and particularly thanked the collaboration provided in the field of health, through assistance work in the country’s hospital network and in the training of doctors.

The meeting was also conducive to exchanging criteria on the evolution and perspectives of the ANGs in both countries, as well as their support in the development of strategies that contribute to maintaining a favorable balance between those who assume a negative and hypercritical position through false accusations. about the reality of our nations.

On the occasion, the Cuban diplomat explained the economic situation that Cuba is going through, which worsened with the passage of Hurricane Ian through four provinces in the west of the country, with an impact on tobacco production, a fundamental line for exports, together with severe damage to agriculture, the housing fund and the national electrical system, which kept the population without this important service for several days. He added that the government, local authorities and the people in general are working with great intensity under the direction of the party to recover the damage caused by said meteorological event.

He also explained that the foregoing is linked to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government, which causes real and significant damage to the human rights of Cubans. In the first 14 months of President Joseph Biden’s government alone, the effects caused by the blockade reached 6,364 million dollars, which hinders our development and deprives the country of income that could be used for the well-being of our people.

Both diplomats expressed the political will of the parties to continue working with a view to further strengthening bilateral relations, including evaluating possible cooperation between the ANGs of both countries, as well as continuing mutual support on issues of interest to both governments.
