They pay heartfelt tribute to Maceo and Che on the day of their birth at the University Sub-headquarters of the Military Hospital of Guinea Bissau

Today marks one more anniversary of the birth of Ernesto Che Guevara and Antonio Maceo, at the University Sub-headquarters of the Main Military Hospital of the Cuban Guinean Faculty of Medicine “Raúl Diaz Argüelles”, the students and professors staged a cultural political act to pay tribute to these two great Cuban patriots. It was a propitious moment to condemn the unjust exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the IX Summit of the Americas recently held in Los Angeles, United States.

The Ambassador of Cuba accredited in Guinea Bissau, the Head of the BMC, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and representation of the Party Nucleus, as well as student leaders, were present.

In the central words of the act, Dr. Raciel Roselló Ortega said, “It seems as if the qualities of the former were reincarnated in the latter and both, united in glory, set the bar at the highest point of courage, internationalism, ethics, honor and intransigence in the struggle against imperialism and colonialism”.

The firmness of principles and intransigence of Maceo, in the face of surrendering positions, became paradigms in the Baraguá Protest, with the historic phrase of the Mambí Chief when referring to the Zanjón Pact, of «keep that document, we do not want to know about the. No, we don’t understand each other », very similar to Che’s phrase when he stated that imperialism could not be trusted« not even a little bit, nothing ». It was General Maceo who kept the independence ideals alive when a large part of the Cuban mambises had signed such a document. His radically revolutionary thought is revealed as one of the most endearing foundations of our political tradition. About the Bronze Titan, José Martí would write:… we have to pay attention to what he says, because Maceo has as much strength in his mind as in his arm…

It stands out that both Maceo and Che had under their command invading columns from the East to the West, both shone both in military action and in their theoretical conceptions, in their participation in important moments in many countries and in their ideas they underlined the necessary Latin American unity and Caribbean against the nascent North American imperialism.

Both men are paradigms of the Cuban revolutionary people, beyond the historical coincidences of their day of birth.

Cuba follows more firmly than ever the example of these two giants of our history. At a time when the hegemony of the most powerful empire in the world tries in various ways to erase its example before the world from the face of the earth. Proof of this is the recent exclusion by the US government from participating in the IX Summit of the Americas, which was held in the city of Los Angeles last week to countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, under the manipulated and entirely false pretext disrespect for human rights and the lack of democracy in the three countries. But the voices of other governments were heard, such as that of Mexico through its president, who refused to participate in the summit and the president of Argentina, who also spoke in favor of ending the blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years. There was no lack of voices of solidarity from friendly countries at that rigged Summit of the Americas. About it, President Miguel Diaz Canel Bermúdez said, “ Times have changed and our America does not accept the imposition of the interests of imperialism.”
